The back corner of our woolshed has been collapsing for some time. The posts have rotted off in the ground, and the bearers which hold the floor are rotten. The old floor consisted of logs laying on the ground with boards nailed to them, so it’s not surprising that it sunk and rotted. So we’ve ripped up the floor to replace it and the posts.
The posts are fine above the ground, so the bottom sections will be replaced with steel posts concreted into the ground and bolted to the wooden posts above ground level.
We are setting up a third shearing plant, to allow another shearer to work comfortably. The pace of shearing increases significantly with three shearers going, last year we struggled to maintain the flow of sheep through the shed to keep up with them.
We want to replace the old floor with timber grating and put in more pens, to allow us to hold more sheep in the shed.

A grating floor is used in the pen area of a shearing shed to allow sheep poo to fall through and maintain sheep in the cleanest possible condition for shearing.
We’ve dug the floor out to make room for the poo to fall through and today we’re building concrete peers to hold up the floor. We’ll post more pictures as the job progresses.
Hi guys. I read your post with interest. Looks like a big job ! I have been using woolshed cyprus flooring to build approx 35mm x 75mm as wall lining inside. I think I’m going to run short . Would you have any of your old floor available that you would consider getting rid of ? Thanks. Buzz
Ps happy to send photos of progress so far….putting plaques and photos of source of all timber in project and would certainly feature you guys on wall of origin of recycled timbers.
