Back in April, our young mare Willow acquired a nasty injury to her hind leg. A piece of wire got wrapped around her leg, severing about 90% of her superficial flexor tendon (Achilles’ tendon). We kept her locked up and bandaged for about a month, then we turned her out with the other horses and pretty much let her heal herself without any more intervention. We’ve now brought her back in and the results are pretty impressive. There’ll always be a scar, but she puts weight on the leg with no trouble and, as far as we can tell, she’s going to be just fine. This is great news, as she’s a lovely mare and we’re looking forward to breaking her in and making her into our newest working stock horse.
